Early Life
Rollin White King was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 10 1931 to Griffin and Elizabeth King. Born at the height of the Great Depression, the King family struggled to make ends meet just as many other families in the Depression did.
Growing up in arguably the worst economic depression in human history had a profound effect on the young Rollin, with his parents stressing the importance of having a strong work ethic over anything else.
Attending Shaker Heights High School in the Shaker Heights suburb of Cleveland, Rollin was a gifted student who excelled in academic subjects like Math and English, which allowed him to attend Case Western Reserve University.
Graduating in 1955, Rollin then went on to receive an M.B.A. from Harvard before beginning his career as a financial advisor.
Initially working for a firm in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, Rollin moved to Texas in 1962 as he got a better job with a San Antonio financial advisory firm.
A savvy financial advisor, Rollin didn’t just help his clients invest their money wisely, but did the same with his own money, gaining a reputation as a man who could be trusted with your money. This also made him fairly wealthy too.

Whilst in Texas, Rollin became familiar with the world of aviation and used some of his money for flying lessons, becoming an amateur pilot and a member of several local flying clubs.
Owing to his role as a financial advisor, Rollin King began to notice that many of his clients – wealthy Texan businessmen – were chartering their own aircraft for flights within Texas rather than paying huge airline ticket prices.
